• ဌာန် | htan2 - [grammar] place of articulation (ɑːrˌtɪk.jəˈleɪ.ʃən 🔊), "place" where the sound of a word is made such as base of the tongue, upper palate (ˈpælət 🔊), near the lips, etc.. ကရိုဏ်း | ka1-rine3 is similar, but in reference to "part of the mouth" such as the teeth, lips and tongue that are used to produce such vocalizations. The seven classifications are as follow:
  
  
  1. နှုတ်ခမ်းဌာန်-နှုတ်ခမ်းကရိုဏ်း | hna1-khan3-htan2 hna1-khan3 ka1-rine3 - labial including exo-labial and endo-labial sound group: ပ၊ ဖ၊ ဗ၊ မ၊ ဝ.
     
     
  2. သွားဌာန်-ရှာဖျားကရိုဏ်း | thwa3-htan2 sha2-pfya3 ka1-rine3 - dental sound group: စ၊ ဆ၊ ဇ၊ သ. [Also: ဒန္တဌာန်.]
     
     
  3. အာထိပ်ဌာန်-လျှာဖျားအနီးကရိုဏ်း | ah2-htate-htan2 sha2-pfya3 a-ni3 ka1-rine3 - alveolar and post-alveolar sound group: တ၊ ထ၊ ဒ၊ န၊ လ.
     
     
  4. အာခေါင်မာဌာန်-လျှာလယ်ကရိုဏ်း | ah2-goun2-ma2-htan2 sha2-leare2 ka1-rine3 - pre-palatal and palatal sound group: အိ၊ အီ၊ အေး အဲ၊ ည၊ ယ. [Also တာလုဌာန် - တာလုဇ | ta2-lu1-htan2 ta2-lu1-za1.]
     
     
  5. အာခေါင်ပျော့ဌာန်-လျှာနောက်ကရိုဏ်း | ah2-goun2-pyau1-htan2 sha2-nout ka1-rine3 - uvular and velar (where the tongue touches the velum) sound group: က၊ ခ၊ ဂ၊ င
     
     
  6. လည်ချောင်းဌာန်-လျှာရင်းကရိုဏ်း | leare2-joun3-htan2 sha2-yin3 ka1-rine3 - pharyngeal, glottal sound group: အ၊ အာ၊ ဟ. [Also: ကဏ္ဌဌာန်.]
     
     
  7. နှာခေါင်းဌာန်-လျှာခင်ကရိုဏ်း | hna1-khoun3-htan2 sha2-khin2 ka1-rine3 - nasal sound group: င၊ ည၊ န၊ မ. [Note: the words such as န၊ မ also fall into an another category while still giving a nasal voice.]
